As Omicron Promotes Infections, Pakistan Sees the Second-Highest Daily COVID-19 Caseload Since 2020.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan's National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) reported 6,808 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, the second-highest daily case count since the coronavirus pandemic began in 2020, as the Omicron strain spreads infections across the country.
On June 13, 2020, Pakistan recorded 6,825 daily coronavirus cases, making it the country with the highest daily infection rate.




According to the NCOC, a total of 58,943 tests were performed across the country in the last 24 hours, with 6808 of them returning positive, bringing the total number of infections to 1,345,801.

The country's positive rate surged to a nine-month high this morning, with the infection rate at 11.55 percent. Meanwhile, five more individuals died of the virus over the same time period, bringing the total number of people who have died as a result of the infection to 29,042. 918 individuals were said to be in critical condition.

Islamabad — 15.37%

Rawalpindi — 12.75%

Peshawar — 11.20%

Official numbers reveal that the number of active cases has risen to 51,094 from 44,717 in the last 24 hours.

Overnight, nearly 3,100 infections are recorded in Karachi.

The fifth wave of the COVID-19 pandemic is wreaking havoc in Karachi, with 3,149 cases reported in the last 24 hours. After 7670 tests were taken in the last 24 hours, the city's positivity rate was estimated to be 41%, the highest in the country.
